Ariel Sharon buried

Israel is holding the burial service of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at his family ranch in the Negev desert.
Earlier, speakers at the state memorial described him as an "indomitable" man devoted to the security of his people.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was "one of the greatest military commanders the Jewish people have had".
Mr Sharon, regarded by many Israelis as a great statesmen but widely loathed in the Arab world, died on Saturday aged 85 after eight years in a coma.
Thousands of mourners paid their final respects on Sunday, when Mr Sharon's coffin lay in state outside parliament - the Knesset - in Jerusalem.
'Giant of this land'
Amid final prayers, Mr Sharon's coffin was placed in a plot at the Sycamore ranch he owned near Sderot, close to Gaza.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Joe Biden and Tony Blair were among those to pay tribute to the former PM at the memorial
He lies beside his wife Lili, who died in 2000.
Security was tight as a group of eight serving generals carried the coffin on the final stage of the journey.
Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Benny Gantz said in a speech: "Generations of soldiers came to salute you for the last time today... I came to salute you too."
Earlier, some 20 foreign delegates and hundreds of Israeli dignitaries attended the state memorial service.
They included US Vice-President Joe Biden, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Middle East international envoy Tony Blair, Czech PM Jiri Rusnok and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Ariel Sharon in 1973 at the Suez CanalSharon was a soldier for many years, playing a major role in 1973 war, before he entered politics
Delivering the first speech at the memorial, President Shimon Peres said Mr Sharon was a "living military legend" who also always dreamed of peace for Israel.
He said Mr Sharon's shoulders had "borne the weight of the security of our people".
Mr Netanyahu said Mr Sharon's "unique contribution to the security of the state is engraved in our historical writings", adding: "Your memory will be part of this nation forever."
Grey skies cleared over Israel for a final farewell to Ariel Sharon but military helicopters clattered overhead and a white security zeppelin bobbed above his much-loved Sycamore ranch.
Troops stood guard on every hill and hundreds of police were in position for the burial of a "larger-than-life" figure, described by many Israelis as a "man of the land". His burial site on Anemones Hill, rising in the arc of land between the Gaza Strip and the Israeli town of Sderot, was a powerful symbol of the battles fought for this land.
Israel's Iron Dome anti-rocket battery was in place to ensure no missiles were fired from Gaza during the last rituals for a man both revered and reviled.
Mr Biden described Mr Sharon as an "indomitable bulldozer... The security of his people was his unwavering mission".
Describing Mr Sharon as "bold, unorthodox and unyielding", but also "warm-hearted, humorous, charming and passionate", Mr Blair called the former PM "a giant of this land" who would "take his place in the history of Israel with pride".
Mr Sharon's body was then taken in a funeral cortege for a brief military ceremony at Latrun, west of Jerusalem, where he was severely wounded in the 1948 war of independence.
An Israeli security source said the Hamas government in Gaza had been warned to prevent any rocket attacks on the burial service.
Because of its proximity to Gaza, three security rings were being placed around the burial site.
The Israeli military said four rockets were launched from Gaza on Monday. The first two rockets did not reach Israel, the second two landed on open ground.
Gaza withdrawal
No-one from the Arab world, Africa or Latin America was attending Monday's ceremonies.

His death has prompted a round of reflections on whether matters might have been different if he had been able to continue”
Mr Sharon's active role in four wars, from Israel's independence in 1948 until 1973, and later in government as the man who ordered the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, meant he was widely hated across the Arab world.
Palestinians saw him as a war criminal, because of the 1982 massacre by Christian Phalangist militia at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. An Israeli inquiry found Mr Sharon responsible for failing to prevent the killings.
But months before the stroke that left him in a coma in January 2006, he guided Israelis through a unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, with the declared aim of easing tensions with the Palestinians.

Tight Israeli security at Ariel Sharon funeral

Ariel Sharon's coffin outside the Knesset A state memorial service and military funeral will take place amid heavy security in Israel on Monday for ex-PM Ariel Sharon who died in hospital on Saturday after eight years in a coma.
More than 20 international delegations will attend the ceremonies, first in Jerusalem and then near the Gaza Strip.
US Vice-President Joe Biden will meet Israeli leaders during his visit.
Thousands of mourners paid their final respects on Sunday when his coffin lay in state outside parliament.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting that Ariel Sharon was "first and foremost a warrior and a commander, among the Jewish people's greatest generals in the current era and throughout its history".
His active role in four wars, from Israel's independence in 1948 until 1973, and later in government as the man who ordered the 1982 invasion of Lebanon, meant he was also widely loathed across the Arab world.
Palestinians saw him as a war criminal, because of the 1982 massacre by Christian Phalangist militia at the Sabra and Shatila refugee camps. An Israeli inquiry found him responsible for failing to prevent the killings.

Ehud Olmert, who succeeded Ariel Sharon as prime minister, reflects on his legacy
Ariel Sharon's coffin lay in state for most of Sunday
Ehud Olmert, who took over from him as prime minister, has told the BBC that had he remained in office, Mr Sharon would not have stopped at Gaza but would have pulled out of most of the occupied territories.
"He thought that the territories were essential for the security of the state of Israel. When he found out that the security of the state of Israel perhaps could be served better by not being in all of those territories he then drew the necessary, inevitable conclusions," said Mr Olmert.
On Sunday evening, after the Israeli public had paid their respects to the 85-year-old ex-prime minister outside the Knesset, Israel's parliament, an honour guard took his coffin into the building ahead of Monday's memorial service.
Dignitaries from around the world are due to attend the Knesset memorial service, including Mr Biden, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Middle East international envoy Tony Blair, Czech PM Jiri Rusnok and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
Ministers and officials are also expected from several other countries, although no-one will attend from the Arab world, Africa or Latin America.
The main road from the airport to Jerusalem is being closed during the morning rush hour because of the arrival of international delegations.
The state funeral inside the Knesset will be broadcast on TV. Afterwards, Mr Sharon's body will be taken in a funeral cortege for a brief military ceremony at Latrun, west of Jerusalem, where he was severely wounded in the 1948 war of independence.

An unconfirmed Israel TV report said Israel's Iron Dome aerial defence system was being prepared in case of rocket attack.

Walcott out for six months..

Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott has been ruled out for at least six months with a knee injury, the club have confirmed.

WALCOTT INJURY A CRUSHING BLOW
Liam Twomey assesses how the England winger's injury will affect Arsenal and England
Walcott was stretchered off during the club's 2-0 win over Tottenham in the FA Cup third round on Saturday and scans have revealed he has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

The 24-year-old will undergo surgery to rectify the problem, which will sideline him for the remainder of the Premier League season and the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Walcott courted controversy during Saturday's match as he gestured the scoreline to the Tottenham fans while being stretchered off.

The Football Association confirmed on Monday that the winger would face no disciplinary action for the gesture, but now injury has brought a premature end to his campaign.

Walcott has made 21 appearances for Arsenal and England this season, scoring seven goals.

Barcelona revive interest in David Luiz

Barcelona revive interest in David LuizChelsea will entertain offers for the 26-year-old, but would only sanction a move for a significant fee, while St. Etienne defender Kurt Zouma has been lined up as a replacement
EXCLUSIVE
By Paul Clennam

Barcelona have made a renewed enquiry as to the availability of Chelsea defender David Luiz

Camp Nou officials contacted Chelsea about the Brazilian shortly before Christmas and Goal understands that the Brazilian is keen to discuss a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are willing to listen to formal offers for the 26-year-old, but Jose Mourinho considers the former Benfica man a valuable asset and would only sanction a move for a significant fee.

Barcelona, who are looking to bolster their defensive options with skipper Carles Puyol coming to the end of his career and only Javier Mascherano, Gerard Pique and Marc Bartra as recognised centre-backs, approached Chelsea over the summer but Luiz claims he rejected the chance to join the Catalan outfit.

"There was an official offer [from Barcelona], but I decided to stay at Chelsea," the defender told Brazilian newspaperGazeta Esportiva in September.

Mourinho moved to play down talk of any potential transfer last month, stating: "He’s our player and we are happy he’s back in a moment when we need him and John Terry in defence.”

However, sources close to the club have indicated that Chelsea would be willing to let Luiz, who has impressed in recent weeks, leave the club if Barcelona make an offer that is too good to turn down.

Chelsea have been tracking Saint-Etienne defender Kurt Zouma in recent weeks, with the club set to go head-to-head with Manchester City and a number of other sides in the coming months to secure the highly rated 19-year-old.

Reus rules out Dortmund exit amid Manchester United links

Reus rules out Dortmund exit amid Manchester United linksThe versatile attacker is happy with life at his current club and has set his sights on Champions League and World Cup glory
Marco Reus has stressed that he is happy with life at Borussia Dortmund and is not thinking about a transfer amid rumours linking him with Manchester United.

The Premier League champions supposedly see the 24-year-old attacker as a valuable addition as they aim to add some more creativity to their squad, while clubs such as Manchester City and Barcelona have also been linked with the Germany international.

However, Reus is focused on BVB and is happy with life at last year's Champions League finalists.

"I have a contract with Borussia Dortmund and I am happy to be here," he told Bild when questioned about his future.

"All I can say about is that I am not thinking about a transfer. I am focused on BVB and anything else is something for the future."

Reus, who has a contract with Dortmund until June 2017, then went on to discuss the remainder of the 2013-14 campaign and made it clear that he wants Champions League and World Cup glory.

"These are two very big goals and both are not entirely unrealistic," he continued.

"Who knows what we can achieve in the Champions League. Nobody thought we could make it to the final last season either.

"We finally want to win the World Cup again with Germany and will have to show our ambition right from the start of the competition. We will prepare meticulously for this amazing tournament."
